Tool · Find a Fix
Type the symptom or the part number and we route you to the exact page, not a phone tree.
A flickering light, a dead outlet, a breaker that trips on schedule, a GFCI that won't hold a reset: this is the same table our dispatcher works from, built out so you can run it yourself before you call.
Nothing in the chip list matches that text. Keep typing, or use the manual list below.
How the lookup decides
It isn't a chatbot guessing. It's a keyword table our dispatcher already uses, run against what you typed.
Each of the twelve symptom chips carries a short list of the words people actually use for it: "flicker," "pulse" and "strobe" all point at the same lighting problem; "won't reset," "test button" and "outdoor outlet" all point at a GFCI. Typing a few words scores every symptom against your text and shows the strongest match, the same way our dispatcher listens for the actual complaint under whatever word a caller uses first.
Part and material names work too. Typing "Romex," "conduit," "AFCI," "three way" or "old work box" routes straight to the page section that covers it, even if you never mention a symptom at all. That matters for a flickering lights electrician call that turns out to be about dimmer wiring, or a circuit tripping repair that's really a question about arc-fault breakers specifically.
If nothing scores high enough to be a confident match, the tool doesn't invent an answer. It shows the closest two or three services ranked by whatever did score, plus the phone number, because guessing wrong on an electrical symptom is worse than admitting the table doesn't know.
The full symptom list, without the chips
For anyone on a screen reader, or with JavaScript off: every symptom the lookup covers, in plain links, with no interaction required.
- Light flickers or dims — usually a loose backstabbed connection upstream, or an LED lamp fighting a dimmer built for incandescent. Covered on lighting & fixtures.
- Outlet is dead — a tripped GFCI upstream or a failed splice in the last working box. Covered on outlets & switches.
- Breaker keeps tripping — a circuit near its load limit, or a fault behind the wall if it trips with nothing plugged in. Covered on panel diagnostics.
- Switch buzzes or feels warm — a loose terminal or an over-rated dimmer; stop using it and call rather than wait. Covered on outlets & switches.
- Fixture has no power — often a switch leg landed on the wrong terminal at a new fixture. Covered on lighting & fixtures.
- GFCI will not reset — reversed line and load terminals, or moisture in a downstream box. Covered on outlets & switches.
- Need a ceiling fan installed — the box behind it has to be fan-rated before the fan goes up. Covered on ceiling fans & smart devices.
- Smart switch or dimmer will not pair — usually a missing neutral in the box, or an LED driver that won't dim cleanly. Covered on ceiling fans & smart devices.
- Opening or fitting out an office — desk banks need their own circuits, scheduled after hours. Covered on small office electrical.
- Panel has no labels — a standalone visit to trace and write a directory. Covered on panel diagnostics.
- Old house, cloth or aluminum wiring — partial rewires back to the nearest safe junction. Covered on wiring & partial rewires.
- Want USB-C or 20-amp outlets — a straight swap only once the wire gauge behind it checks out. Covered on outlets & switches.
Parts, not just symptoms
Already know the part name
Skip the symptom altogether and type the part or the term instead. "Decora" and "three way" both land on switch hardware; "AFCI" and "arc fault" land on breaker types; "Romex" and "conduit" land on the two ways we run new cable. "Recessed" and "can light" land on retrofit lighting, and "12 gauge" or "14 gauge" land on the wire-and-breaker matching page.
This is the same shortcut our dispatcher uses on the phone when a caller already has the fixture box open and is reading a part number off it. It saves a step, and it works exactly the same whether you're a switch replacement electrician yourself checking a part, or a tenant reading a sticker off a breaker.
